We got the inspiration to do this project from Haley Harrison and Natalie Cramer, who did the project last year. Although, we did some aspects of the project differently. The first thing we did was that we went and talked to Mrs. Lightcap. She told us for our project that it would be best directed toward the freshman class. Then, she gave us a list of all their names. Next, we made a Google form for the freshman to fill out. We asked them what they are interested in, what their favorite color is (for the card), and what they struggled with. Whether it was any of the listed options or something else. We made the form completely optional because we understand people may not be comfortable sharing that information. Then, we got Mrs. Robinson to send the Google form to all of the freshman class. After getting all the responses, we put all the names into a Google sheet and put the corresponding information next to the people that answered. We put colors next to their names based on severity, meaning that the most server needed the cards first. People that checked anxiety, depression, and anger were marked with red, as urgent. People with a small amount checked were marked with purple, meaning they need a card but not right away.
We then started on the cards as soon as possible. First, we picked out a pick of paper, that was their favorite color, then folded and cut it in half. On a plain pick of paper we wrote their name in their favorite color and we drew small pictures of the activities they listed. Then, we glued the name on the outside and the activities in various places on the card. The writing part was definitely the most difficult part. We knew there was certain things we had to avoid saying because we wanted to shine the light on positivity and keeping the message of the card optimistic. We started every card with this quote, "Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations. The best is yet to come." We felt this quote can be relatable to everyone and their possible situation. We continued the rest of the card to cater to that person's specific needs. Lastly, we finished the card by giving them our names and saying that they could contact us if needed.
